Trillium tschonoskii steroidal saponins (TTS) are a group of bioactive compounds extracted from the rhizomes of the medicinal plant *Trillium tschonoskii* Maxim. These saponins have demonstrated potent anti-cancer properties, particularly against colorectal cancer, in preclinical models. The mechanism of action involves inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis by suppressing the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways and activating the mitochondrial-mediated apoptotic pathway, which is characterized by increased caspase-3 activity. Major active components identified in the TTS extract include Paris saponin VII, polyphylloside III, and Paris saponin VI. Research indicates that TTS can significantly reduce tumor incidence and abnormal epithelial cell proliferation in mouse models of colitis-associated colorectal cancer.
