trimecaine

Trimecaine is a local anesthetic of the amide group and a Class Ib antiarrhythmic agent, primarily developed and utilized in Central and Eastern Europe (notably the former Czechoslovakia). As a derivative of lidocaine, it functions by reversibly blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses to provide regional anesthesia. In cardiology, trimecaine is used to treat and prevent ventricular arrhythmias, particularly those occurring in the setting of acute myocardial infarction, by shortening the action potential duration and effective refractory period in Purkinje fibers. It is characterized by a rapid onset of action and is administered via various routes including infiltration, topical, and intravenous injection.
