Overview

Trimer 4571 is an investigational HIV-1 vaccine candidate designed to stimulate the development of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV. It is a prefusion-stabilized, closed conformation envelope (Env) glycoprotein trimer derived from the clade A strain BG505 and built to closely mimic the native structure of the HIV-1 Env spike. The vaccine is adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide (alum) and has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in both healthy adults and people living with HIV on suppressive antiretroviral therapy. Trimer 4571 induces strong binding antibody responses primarily focused on the glycan-free base of the Env trimer but shows limited neutralizing activity against most tested pseudoviruses[6][3][2][4]. The product was developed by researchers at the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of NIH.
