Overview

Trimethyldiphenylpropylamine is a small molecule drug used primarily for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders. It is structurally related to methadone and belongs to the diphenylmethane class. The drug acts as an antispasmodic agent with both musculotropic (direct smooth muscle relaxant) and anticholinergic properties. It relieves smooth muscle spasms such as those seen in dysmenorrhea and pain associated with gallstones. Trimethyldiphenylpropylamine was marketed in Sweden in the 1960s under the brand name Recipavrin[1][2]. Its mechanism of action involves antagonism at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (anticholinergic effect), leading to reduced smooth muscle contractions.
