Overview

Trinomia is a fixed-dose combination (polypill) medication developed by the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in collaboration with Ferrer for the secondary prevention of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). It contains three active ingredients: aspirin (an antiplatelet agent), ramipril (an ACE inhibitor), and atorvastatin (an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). The polypill strategy is designed to simplify complex treatment regimens for patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction, thereby improving medication adherence—a critical factor in long-term cardiovascular outcomes. Clinical evidence from the Phase 3 SECURE trial demonstrated that Trinomia significantly reduces the risk of MACE and cardiovascular mortality in elderly patients compared to standard usual care.
