Overview

Triobe is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product consisting of folic acid (0.8 mg), cyanocobalamin (0.5 mg), and pyridoxine hydrochloride (3 mg). It is designed to lower elevated plasma homocysteine levels (hyperhomocysteinemia) by providing essential cofactors for the remethylation and transsulfuration pathways of homocysteine metabolism. Folic acid and cyanocobalamin are required for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine via the remethylation pathway, while pyridoxine is a cofactor for the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine via the transsulfuration pathway. Developed and marketed by Meda (now part of Viatris), Triobe is primarily used in Nordic countries for the prevention of symptomatic B-vitamin deficiencies. Clinical research led by Göteborg University has explored its utility in reducing neuronal injury markers, such as neurofilament light protein (NFL), and improving neurocognitive function in HIV-infected individuals suffering from hyperhomocysteinemia.
