Overview

Tripalma is a topical antimicrobial cream developed by Manuka Biosciences for the treatment of impetigo. It is a botanical-based formulation consisting of a synergistic blend of three essential oils: mānuka oil (*Leptospermum scoparium*), kānuka oil (*Kunzea ericoides*), and palmarosa oil (*Cymbopogon martinii*). The primary active components, particularly the β-triketones found in mānuka oil, exhibit potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Streptococcus pyogenes*, which are the primary causative agents of impetigo. The formulation is designed as a non-antibiotic alternative to traditional topical treatments like mupirocin or fusidic acid, aiming to reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance and provide a natural therapeutic option for skin infections.
