Overview

Tripamide is a sulfonamide-derived diuretic and antihypertensive agent. It is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment of hypertension and edema. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting solute reabsorption in the thick ascending limb of Henle's loop, leading to increased diuresis. Additionally, it exerts antihypertensive effects by reducing total peripheral vascular resistance, decreasing cardiac output at higher doses, and inhibiting central sympathetic vasomotor activity. It also demonstrates vasodilation properties by suppressing contractions in vascular smooth muscles.
