Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Triphala-based Herbal Mouth Rinse is an Ayurvedic herbal formulation used as an oral rinse to control dental plaque and gingival inflammation. Triphala is a traditional Ayurvedic mixture of three fruits: *Terminalia chebula* (Haritaki), *Terminalia bellerica* (Bibhitaki), and *Emblica officinalis* (Amalaki). It possesses broad-spectrum antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. In clinical studies, including those associated with the Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Triphala-based mouth rinses have been evaluated for their feasibility and clinical efficacy in reducing plaque accumulation, gingival inflammation, and salivary levels of *Streptococcus mutans* in patients undergoing orthodontic treatments, such as clear aligner therapy, showing comparable efficacy to chlorhexidine without the associated side effects like tooth staining.
