Triplex is a universal recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector vaccine designed to induce a robust and durable T-cell response against cytomegalovirus (CMV). It is engineered to express three highly immunogenic CMV antigens: phosphoprotein 65 (pp65) and immediate-early proteins 1 and 2 (IE1 and IE2). Originally developed by City of Hope and exclusively licensed to Helocyte (a subsidiary of Fortress Biotech), Triplex is primarily being evaluated for the prevention and control of CMV reactivation and disease in immunocompromised populations. This includes patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and solid organ transplants, such as liver transplantation, as well as individuals co-infected with HIV. The vaccine aims to reduce CMV-related morbidity and mortality by enhancing CMV-specific T-cell immunity.
