Overview

Triprorelin acetate (also known as triptorelin acetate) is a synthetic decapeptide analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) with potent agonist activity. Developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical, this specific formulation is a generic version of the reference drug Diphereline. It is primarily used for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer as part of androgen deprivation therapy. Upon administration, triprorelin initially causes a surge in the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). However, continuous administration leads to the downregulation of GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland and subsequent desensitization. This results in a profound suppression of gonadotropin release, leading to a reduction in serum testosterone to castrate levels, which inhibits the growth of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer cells.
