Overview

Triptoquinone B is a bioactive diterpene quinone isolated from the roots of the medicinal plant *Tripterygium wilfordii* Hook f. (Thunder God Vine). It is a key constituent of *Tripterygium wilfordii* polyglycoside tablets (TGTs), which are used in traditional Chinese medicine for their potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. Research indicates that triptoquinone B may have therapeutic potential for treating systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), particularly in managing associated bone and joint complications. Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of the NLRC3 (NLR family CARD domain containing 3) axis; specifically, it has been shown to diminish NLRC3 expression in chondrocytes. This downregulation leads to a decrease in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the expression of enzymes responsible for cartilage degradation. Additionally, triptoquinone B exhibits antioxidant attributes that contribute to its protective effects against oxidative stress-induced damage in autoimmune conditions.
