Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Triseptin is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical antiseptic solution used primarily as a surgical hand scrub and for patient preoperative skin preparation. Manufactured by DFB Technology Ltd and distributed by companies such as Becton Dickinson and Healthpoint Ltd, the product contains 70% v/v ethyl alcohol as its active ingredient. It is designed to significantly reduce the number of microorganisms on the hands, forearms, and body prior to surgery or patient care to prevent surgical site infections. Triseptin is available in both water-aided and waterless formulations. Its mechanism of action is non-specific, utilizing the antimicrobial properties of ethanol to denature proteins and disrupt microbial cell membranes, effectively killing a broad spectrum of bacteria and other pathogens on the skin surface.
