Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Trisodium citrate** is the trisodium salt of citric acid used in this investigator-sponsored dialysis study as the citrate buffering component of a hemodialysis solution. In patients with chronic end-stage renal disease receiving maintenance dialysis, the study replaces acetate-buffered dialysate with citrate-buffered dialysate for three months, then returns to acetate-buffered dialysate, to evaluate effects on dialysis efficiency and systemic inflammation. It is not a proprietary A.O.U. product; it is a generic inorganic-organic salt used here as a dialysate buffer. ([clinicaltrials.gov](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT03577249))
