Tristrontium Aluminate (S3A) is an experimental, calcium-free, strontium-based hydraulic cement being investigated as a direct pulp capping agent in endodontics. Developed and evaluated in research settings, notably by Dr. Surinder Sachdeva, it is designed to induce reparative dentin formation and maintain pulp vitality in cases of reversible pulpitis or pulp exposure. Its setting behavior and biocompatibility are similar to Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA), but it utilizes strontium instead of calcium to potentially enhance mineralization and radiopacity. In clinical studies, it has been compared against established materials like ProRoot MTA, Biodentine, and TheraCal LC for its histological and radiographic effects on human pulp tissue. The material acts by releasing strontium ions and maintaining an alkaline environment, which promotes the differentiation of dental pulp cells into odontoblast-like cells and the subsequent formation of a mineralized dentin bridge.
