Drug intelligence / Profile preview
*Triticum aestivum*, commonly known as wheatgrass or common wheat, is a botanical agent utilized in traditional and integrative medicine for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. In clinical research, extracts of *Triticum aestivum* (often in the form of wheatgrass juice or topical gels) have been investigated for the treatment of uremic pruritus in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), where it is thought to alleviate skin irritation and itching. Beyond uremic pruritus, it has been studied for its potential therapeutic benefits in managing ulcerative colitis, reducing blood transfusion requirements in patients with thalassemia, and mitigating side effects of chemotherapy. The plant extract contains a complex profile of chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins (A, C, E), minerals, and enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, which contribute to its free-radical scavenging activity.
