Tritoqualine is a small molecule antiallergic drug classified as an atypical antihistamine. Unlike classical antihistamines that block histamine receptors, tritoqualine acts by inhibiting the enzyme histidine decarboxylase, which catalyzes the conversion of histidine to histamine. This mechanism reduces endogenous histamine production and thus attenuates allergic responses. Tritoqualine has been used primarily for the treatment of urticaria and allergic rhinitis and was also investigated as a hepatoprotective agent. It does not act directly on histamine receptors and is reported to have no known adverse effects[1][4][5]. The drug belongs to the class of phthalide isoquinolines[2][7].
