Freeze-dried trivalent antivenom (FDTAV) is a lyophilized biological preparation developed for the treatment of snakebite envenoming caused by the three most medically significant snake genera in the Brazilian Amazon: *Bothrops* (jararaca), *Lachesis* (bushmaster), and *Crotalus* (rattlesnake). Developed by the Army Institute of Biology (Instituto de Biologia do Exército) in collaboration with the Butantan Institute, FDTAV consists of purified F(ab')2 fragments of immunoglobulins raised in horses against these specific venoms. The primary innovation of this formulation is its freeze-dried state, which allows for storage and transport without a strict cold chain, facilitating distribution to remote tropical regions where refrigeration is unavailable. It has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in Brazil to compare its safety and efficacy against standard liquid antivenoms.
