Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The **trivalent cold-adapted influenza vaccine** is a live, attenuated influenza vaccine formulated to contain three cold-adapted viral strains: two influenza A strains (H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes) and one influenza B (Victoria lineage) strain[6][9]. The "cold-adapted" aspect refers to the vaccine viruses’ ability to replicate efficiently at cooler temperatures in the nasopharynx but not in the lower respiratory tract, reducing the risk of severe disease while still inducing protective immunity[4][9]. The mechanism of action is by stimulating the body’s immune response to the included influenza strains, without causing illness in healthy individuals[9]. Primary indication is prevention of seasonal influenza in eligible populations (typically ages 2-49 years for LAIV)[9]. The vaccine is usually administered via intranasal spray[4][9].
