Overview

A trivalent ganglioside vaccine is an investigational cancer immunotherapy designed to stimulate the immune system to recognize and attack tumor cells expressing specific carbohydrate antigens. The vaccine contains three different gangliosides—GM2, GD2, and GD3—conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) as a carrier protein and administered with the immunological adjuvant OPT-821. These gangliosides are highly expressed on the surface of many sarcoma cells. By inducing anti-ganglioside antibodies, the therapy aims to control micrometastases and reduce recurrence after surgical resection of metastatic sarcoma[2][3][4][8]. The primary indication under investigation is metastatic sarcoma in patients rendered disease-free by surgery or multimodal therapy.
