The trivalent hemagglutinin nanoparticle influenza vaccine + Matrix-M adjuvant is a combination vaccine composed of recombinant nanoparticle-based hemagglutinin antigens from three distinct influenza virus strains, formulated with Matrix-M adjuvant. The Matrix-M adjuvant is a saponin-based nanoparticle adjuvant derived from Quillaja saponaria (soapbark) tree, mixed with cholesterol and phospholipids to form cage-like nanoparticles (Matrix-A and Matrix-C). This combination enhances both the magnitude and duration of the immune response to the vaccine antigens, promoting strong humoral (antibody) and cellular immunity, notably a Th1-dominant CD4+ response and cross-reactive antibodies. It is used primarily for prophylaxis against influenza, supporting stronger and broader immunity than traditional influenza vaccines, and may offer cross-protection against multiple strains[1][2][3].
