Overview

This combination regimen consists of four separate, FDA-approved vaccines administered simultaneously: a trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV), a tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, a nonavalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, and a hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine. The regimen is being studied by the Washington University School of Medicine in a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT04078633) to evaluate the longitudinal tracking of vaccine-specific bone marrow plasma cells and the resulting immune memory in healthy adults. Each component provides active immunization against its respective pathogens: TIV targets seasonal influenza A and B strains; Tdap protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough; the nonavalent HPV vaccine (typically Gardasil 9) targets nine high-risk and low-risk HPV types associated with cancers and genital warts; and the HAV vaccine prevents hepatitis A infection. The study aims to provide insights into how the human immune system retains memory of multiple antigens when encountered concurrently.
