Overview

The 2011-2012 Seasonal Flu Vaccine was a trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine containing three viral strains: A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus, A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus, and B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus (B Victoria lineage). It was designed to provide protection against influenza during the 2011-2012 influenza season. The vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against the included influenza strains, providing protection against infection. Multiple formulations were available, including standard intramuscular injections, intradermal versions, high-dose versions for older adults, and live attenuated nasal spray versions.
