The trivalent influenza vaccine from the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products (SIBP) is an inactivated split-virion vaccine developed for the prevention of seasonal influenza. It is a biologic preparation containing hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from three influenza virus strains, typically including two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one influenza B lineage. The vaccine is manufactured in formulations containing either 7.5 μg or 15 μg of hemagglutinin per strain. It is administered via intramuscular injection and works by inducing protective antibody responses against the hemagglutinin protein on the surface of influenza viruses, thereby preventing viral entry and infection. This vaccine has been extensively used as a standard-of-care comparator in clinical trials evaluating newer quadrivalent influenza vaccine formulations developed by SIBP.
