A trivalent mRNA hemagglutinin vaccine is a type of influenza vaccine that utilizes messenger RNA (mRNA) technology to deliver genetic instructions for producing three different hemagglutinin (HA) proteins from influenza virus strains. These HA proteins are the primary surface antigens of the influenza virus and are crucial for viral entry into host cells. Once administered, the host's cells translate the mRNA into the respective HA proteins, which are then presented to the immune system. This presentation triggers the body to generate a robust immune response, including the production of antibodies and cellular immunity, thereby providing protection against seasonal influenza. This vaccine platform offers advantages such as rapid development and adaptability to circulating strains, aiming to overcome limitations of traditional influenza vaccines. It is being developed for the prevention of seasonal influenza.
