Overview

The trivalent salmonella conjugate vaccine (TSCV) is an investigational multivalent, conjugated prophylactic vaccine designed to protect against invasive Salmonella infections. It targets three major serovars responsible for invasive disease in humans—Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Enteritidis, and Salmonella Typhi. The vaccine contains the following components: - S. Typhimurium COPS-FliC conjugate - S. Enteritidis COPS-FliC conjugate - S. Typhi Vi-TT conjugate (Typbar-TCV) Each component consists of core and O-polysaccharides (COPS) from the bacterial lipopolysaccharide linked to flagellin monomer protein (FliC), or in the case of S. Typhi, Vi polysaccharide linked to tetanus toxoid protein carrier (Vi-TT). The mechanism of action is immunostimulation via induction of specific antibodies against these antigens, providing protection against invasive disease caused by these serovars. The primary indication is prevention of invasive non-typhoidal and typhoidal Salmonella infections in children and adults living in or traveling to endemic regions. As of early 2025, TSCV has completed Phase 1 clinical trials demonstrating safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults[5][6]. A Phase 2 age-descending trial evaluating safety and immune response across infants, toddlers, children, and adults is ongoing[7].
