tRNA transglycosylase inhibitor

Prokaryotics is developing a novel small molecule inhibitor of bacterial tRNA transglycosylase (Tgt), an enzyme essential for the queuosine (Q) modification of tRNA. This modification occurs at the wobble position of specific tRNAs and is critical for the accurate and efficient translation of proteins, particularly those involved in bacterial virulence and survival under stress. By inhibiting Tgt, the drug disrupts this modification pathway, thereby impairing the pathogen's ability to cause infection. The program is specifically focused on addressing multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial infections, with a primary emphasis on *Acinetobacter baumannii*. Targeted indications include pneumonia and wound infections. The project has received support through Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
