Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trofín is a natural biological anti-anemic and nutritional supplement developed by the National Center for Biopreparations (BioCen) in Cuba. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia and other nutritional deficiencies. The product is formulated with heme iron (derived from bovine hemoglobin) at a concentration of 4 mg/mL, which offers superior bioavailability and gastrointestinal tolerance compared to conventional inorganic iron salts. Its composition also includes proteins, amino acids, bee honey, and propolis, which act synergistically to enhance iron absorption and provide nutritional support. Trofín is particularly utilized in vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and athletes, especially those who are intolerant to standard oral iron treatments. The product line includes several specialized formulations, such as Neotrofin CF, which is fortified with vitamin C and folic acid to further support erythropoiesis.
