Overview

Trogopterus dung, known as **Wu Ling Zhi** in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is the dried feces of the complex-toothed flying squirrel (*Trogopterus xanthipes*). It is traditionally classified as a blood-regulating agent used to promote blood circulation, dissipate blood stasis, and alleviate pain. Modern pharmacological research indicates that it contains various bile acids and organic compounds that contribute to its anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and cardioprotective effects. It is a key component in several Chinese patent medicines, such as **Pingxiao Capsule**, which is used as an adjuvant therapy for breast cancer, and **Gu Ben Pei Yuan San**, which has been studied for its potential to improve myocardial repair after injury. Its mechanisms of action include the inhibition of **Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)** expression and the reduction of **Cyclin D1** levels, which may mediate its therapeutic benefits in immune thrombocytopenia and malignant neoplasms.
