Overview

Trolamine salicylate is a topical analgesic classified as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is widely used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains in muscles and joints, including those associated with arthritis, backache, muscle strains, sprains, and bruises. The drug works by penetrating the skin and inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, key mediators of pain and inflammation. A notable characteristic of trolamine salicylate is its lack of odor, distinguishing it from some other topical analgesics. It is available over-the-counter in various topical formulations such as creams, lotions, and sprays.
