Trolnitrate

Trolnitrate is a small molecule organic nitrate with vasodilator activity. It is primarily used to prevent or ameliorate attacks of angina pectoris. The drug functions by acting as a smooth muscle depressant, similar to nitroglycerin, leading to the dilation of coronary vessels. Its mechanism involves the release of nitric oxide, which subsequently stimulates soluble guanylate cyclase, increasing cyclic GMP (cGMP) levels and ultimately resulting in the relaxation of vascular smooth muscles. This action improves oxygen supply to the myocardium and reduces cardiac workload. Trolnitrate has also been investigated for its protective effects against myocardial necrosis. It reached a maximum clinical trial phase of II for at least one investigational indication.
