Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Trolox** is a water-soluble analog of vitamin E (α-tocopherol) with the chemical structure 6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid. It acts as a potent antioxidant and radical scavenger, commonly used as a standard reference compound in biochemical assays to measure antioxidant capacity (Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, TEAC). Trolox neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibits lipid peroxidation, reduces oxidative damage, and protects cells from apoptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction. It is widely utilized in scientific research related to oxidative stress, neurodegenerative diseases, aging, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, but is not approved for diagnostic or therapeutic use in humans[2][3][4][7][8].
