Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trombix is a brand-name oral anticoagulant whose active ingredient is rivaroxaban, a small-molecule, direct factor Xa inhibitor used to prevent and treat venous and arterial thromboembolic events such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, and atherothrombotic events in coronary and peripheral artery disease.[1][2][3][4] By selectively and competitively inhibiting coagulation factor Xa without requiring antithrombin III as a cofactor, rivaroxaban blocks conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, reduces fibrin clot formation, and thereby decreases the risk of pathologic clotting while increasing bleeding risk as the principal toxicity.[1][4]
