Overview

TrophAmine is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, hypertonic solution containing crystalline amino acids specifically formulated to provide a well-tolerated nitrogen source for nutritional support and therapy for infants and young pediatric patients. It contains a mixture of essential and nonessential amino acids, including taurine and N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NAT), a soluble form of tyrosine. When administered in conjunction with cysteine hydrochloride, it results in the normalization of plasma amino acid concentrations to a profile consistent with that of a breast-fed infant. The formulation was developed through pharmacokinetic multiple regression analysis to address inadequate levels of essential amino acids in infants receiving conventional amino acid solutions for TPN. It is indicated for total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to prevent nitrogen and weight loss or treat negative nitrogen balance in pediatric patients.
