Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tropex-P is an ophthalmic solution containing a fixed-dose combination of tropicamide (0.8% w/v) and phenylephrine hydrochloride (5% w/v). Developed by Grevis Pharma, it is used to induce mydriasis (pupil dilation) and cycloplegia (paralysis of the ciliary muscle) to facilitate thorough retinal examinations, diagnostic procedures, and pre-operative preparation for ocular surgeries. Tropicamide acts as an anticholinergic agent by blocking muscarinic receptors in the sphincter pupillae and ciliary muscles, preventing pupil constriction and accommodation. Phenylephrine hydrochloride acts as a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist, stimulating the pupillary dilator muscle to further enlarge the pupil. Together, these two active ingredients provide rapid and synergistic pupil dilation.
