Overview

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous biologic therapy prepared by concentrating platelets from a patient's own peripheral blood. The Medical University of Lodz is investigating the use of the Tropocells® PRP system in a randomized clinical trial (NCT06631976) for patients with supraspinatus tendon injuries who experience significant sleep disturbances due to shoulder pain. PRP functions by releasing a high concentration of growth factors—such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)—upon injection into the injured tendon. These factors stimulate tissue repair, collagen synthesis, and angiogenesis, aiming to accelerate healing, reduce pain, and consequently improve sleep quality and shoulder function.
