Overview

Trospium is a small molecule antimuscarinic agent used primarily to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, including urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and urinary frequency. It acts as a muscarinic receptor antagonist, reducing the activity of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors in the bladder's smooth muscle. This leads to relaxation of the bladder muscle and decreased involuntary contractions. Trospium displays higher affinity for muscarinic receptors than nicotinic receptors at therapeutic concentrations. It is available as oral tablets and extended-release capsules[1][4][9].
