Overview

TRP-8802 is a synthetic, oral formulation of psilocybin developed by Tryp Therapeutics for use in combination with psychotherapy. It is being investigated as a treatment for several neuropsychiatric and pain-related disorders, including binge eating disorder (BED), fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The drug acts as a serotonergic psychedelic, primarily targeting the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor to induce neuroplastic changes that may underlie its therapeutic effects. Clinical trials have shown significant reductions in binge eating episodes and improvements in anxiety, depression, pain severity, sleep quality, and other quality-of-life measures. TRP-8802 serves as the predecessor to TRP-8803 (an IV-infused psilocin formulation) and is used to establish clinical proof-of-concept before advancing to next-generation formulations[1][2][4][5][6][8].
