Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cardurion Pharmaceuticals is developing a small molecule inhibitor of the Transient Receptor Potential Canonical-6 (TRPC6) ion channel for the treatment of cardiopulmonary indications. TRPC6 is a non-selective cation channel that facilitates the influx of calcium and sodium into cells, playing a critical role in the pathological remodeling of cardiac and pulmonary tissues. Overactivation of TRPC6 has been implicated in the progression of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. By inhibiting this channel, Cardurion aims to mitigate maladaptive signaling pathways and provide a novel therapeutic approach for cardiovascular diseases with significant unmet needs. The program is currently in the preclinical discovery phase as part of the company's internal pipeline expansion.
