Overview

TRTL-118 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase 9 (PDE9) inhibitor currently in preclinical development by Tortugas Neuroscience. The drug is being investigated for the treatment of reversible encephalopathies, a group of neurological conditions characterized by transient brain dysfunction. PDE9 is an enzyme that specifically hydrolyzes cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), a critical second messenger involved in synaptic plasticity and neuronal signaling. By inhibiting PDE9, TRTL-118 aims to elevate intracellular cGMP levels, thereby potentially restoring normal neuronal function and addressing the cognitive or neurological deficits associated with encephalopathic states.
