Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trumenba is a bivalent recombinant protein vaccine developed by Pfizer for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B. It consists of two lipidated recombinant factor H binding protein (fHBP) variants, one from subfamily A (A05) and one from subfamily B (B01), which are expressed in Escherichia coli. fHBP is a surface-exposed lipoprotein that allows the bacteria to evade the host's alternative complement pathway by binding human factor H. Vaccination induces bactericidal antibodies that prevent this binding and facilitate complement-mediated killing of the bacteria. It was the first serogroup B meningococcal vaccine approved in the United States, specifically for individuals aged 10 through 25 years.
