Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Trusopt PF is a preservative-free ophthalmic formulation of dorzolamide hydrochloride, a small-molecule carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. As a sulfonamide derivative, dorzolamide selectively inhibits carbonic anhydrase II in the ciliary processes of the eye, reducing bicarbonate formation and subsequent sodium and fluid transport into the aqueous humor, which decreases aqueous humor production and intraocular pressure. The preservative-free, unit-dose presentation is intended to minimize exposure to benzalkonium chloride and other preservatives in patients who are sensitive to or require avoidance of ophthalmic preservatives, while maintaining the intraocular pressure–lowering efficacy established for dorzolamide ophthalmic solutions. Trusopt PF has been marketed in certain regions by Elvium Life Sciences and related licensees as a branded, preservative-free alternative to standard dorzolamide ophthalmic solutions for chronic glaucoma and ocular hypertension management.[1][5][8]
