TRV250

TRV250 is a novel small molecule drug developed for the acute treatment of migraine. It acts as a selective agonist of the delta-opioid receptor, with preferential engagement of G-protein signaling and reduced activation of the β-arrestin2 pathway. This selectivity is designed to minimize adverse effects such as proconvulsant activity and abuse potential that are associated with non-selective delta-opioid receptor agonists and conventional mu-opioid agonists. Preclinical studies have shown efficacy in models of migraine, pain, depression, and anxiety, with a broad safety margin and no observed seizure liability or addiction risk. TRV250 is being developed by Trevena for oral or subcutaneous administration and may represent a first-in-class therapy for patients who do not benefit from existing treatments like triptans[1][2][6][7].
