TS-141 is a small molecule agonist of the trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) currently under development by Taisho Pharmaceutical for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). TAAR1 is a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a crucial role in regulating monoaminergic neurotransmission, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin systems. By activating TAAR1, TS-141 is designed to modulate these neurotransmitter levels to improve focus and reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity in patients with ADHD. This mechanism represents a novel, non-stimulant approach to ADHD treatment, potentially offering a different safety and tolerability profile compared to traditional stimulant medications. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in Japan, specifically targeting pediatric populations.
