Overview

TS siRNA is a **small interfering RNA (siRNA)** specifically designed to target and silence the expression of the **thymidylate synthase (TS) gene**. siRNAs are double-stranded RNA molecules, 20-24 nucleotides long, that mediate gene silencing via the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway[2][3][4][1]. Upon delivery into the cytoplasm, the siRNA is processed so that its antisense ("guide") strand is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), enabling sequence-specific recognition and cleavage of target messenger RNA (mRNA)[2][3][4][1]. TS siRNA specifically binds to TS mRNA, triggering its degradation and thus inhibiting the production of thymidylate synthase, an enzyme crucial for DNA synthesis and cell proliferation. This mechanism makes TS siRNA a research tool and potential therapeutic agent, commonly investigated for **anticancer applications** where downregulation of TS can sensitize tumors to chemotherapeutic agents and inhibit tumor growth[5][4]. Developers, formulation specifics, and clinical status for TS siRNA as a distinct pharmaceutical product are generally unknown or proprietary; it is typically used as a **custom-designed nucleic acid reagent** in research settings.
