Overview

TSN2898 is a small molecule inhibitor of stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD-1), an enzyme present in sebaceous glands and a key regulatory enzyme in lipogenesis. It was developed as a topical gel for the treatment of moderate to severe acne vulgaris. The drug acts by inhibiting SCD-1, thereby potentially reducing sebum production and addressing one of the underlying causes of acne. Development was led by Thesan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., but clinical development was discontinued after Phase 2 trials were withdrawn[1][2][3][5].
