Overview

Tsudosan is a traditional Japanese Kampo herbal medicine formula (TJ-105) composed of nine ingredients, including Rhubarb, Glycyrrhiza, and Safflower. It is traditionally used to treat "blood stasis" (oketsu) and is indicated for conditions such as trauma, bruising, and menstrual irregularities. Recent research has demonstrated its potent antioxidative properties, showing efficacy in preclinical models of diabetic nephropathy. The formula works by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby reducing oxidative stress markers like 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and protecting renal structures, including podocytes and tubular cells, from hyperglycemic damage.
