TT-173 is a recombinant human tissue factor (TF)-based topical hemostatic agent developed for the control of surgical bleeding. Unlike traditional thrombin-based hemostats, TT-173 utilizes yeast-derived microvesicles that incorporate glycosylated recombinant human tissue factor into their membranes. The active ingredient initiates the extrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade by acting as a high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, leading to rapid activation of downstream clotting factors and effective hemostasis. It is presented as a lyophilized powder intended to be reconstituted before application and can be delivered via spray or applied with absorbable dressings. The drug has received Orphan Drug Designation for hemophilia and von Willebrand disease and is currently in phase II/III clinical trials for blood coagulation disorders such as surgical bleeding in total knee arthroplasty[1][2][3][4][5].
