Overview

TTHX1114 is an investigational engineered variant of the naturally occurring protein fibroblast growth factor-1 (FGF1). It is designed to stimulate proliferation and migration of corneal endothelial and epithelial cells, as well as protect these cells from stress and injury. TTHX1114 retains all natural functions of FGF1 but has been structurally modified for increased stability, allowing it to remain active in the eye longer than native FGF1. The drug acts by binding to fibroblast growth factor receptors on corneal cells, promoting cell division and tissue healing. Its primary indications are for accelerating healing in corneal epithelial defects, protecting/regenerating corneal endothelial cells lost due to disease or surgery (such as after Descemet Stripping Only [DSO] procedures), and reducing complications like pain, inflammation, or vision loss from scarring. TTHX1114 is being developed by Trefoil Therapeutics[1][2][3][5][6].
