TTP273 is an oral, small molecule glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Unlike traditional GLP-1 therapies that are injectable peptides, TTP273 is a non-peptide agent designed to be taken orally. Its mechanism of action involves selective activation of the GLP-1 receptor, which enhances insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose levels and suppresses glucagon production. This dual effect leads to improved glycemic control and may also contribute to weight loss. Clinical studies have shown that TTP273 significantly reduces HbA1c with minimal gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea or vomiting compared to other GLP-1 agonists[1][4][6]. The drug was originally developed by vTv Therapeutics and has undergone phase 2 clinical trials for type 2 diabetes[7]. Rights for development in China and certain Pacific Rim territories were licensed to Huadong Medicine but this license was planned for termination in early 2024[7].
